A Toshiba lançou já no continente Europeu o seu novo Smartphone Windows Mobile, este completo dispositivo vém refazer o conceito de smartphone, deixando cair por terra o formato bar type, e mostrando desde já alguma preocupação estética, algo que outras marcas nunca desenvolveram.

Ao contrário de muitos rumores, este equipamento não será fabricado pela a HTC, mas sim pela AsusTek.

LG meets Symbian OS

A Nokia, parece disposta a "delarar guerra" á Microsoft.
Os equipamentos Windows Mobile, assumem neste momento um crescimento anormal, no negócio de equipamentos de telecomunicações, e são claramente uma forte (e talvez a primeira) ameaça ao lider mundial Nokia.
Sendo a vantagem destes equipamentos o ambiente Windows, e não propriamente os fabricantes. Assim desta forma a estratégia da Nokia, passa por estabelecer acordos com outros fabricantes, para a utilização do sistema operativo desenvolvido por si.

LG S10, junta-se assim ao já apresentado Samsung i400, este equipamento já é um terminal WCDMA/HSDPA .

Primeiro Samsung Symbian OS

O novo Samsung SGH-i400, será o primeiro smartphone da marca coreana, a apresentar-se com Symbian OS. Associado a esta novidade, o i400 é um equipamento dentro da linha slider da Samsung, apresentando-se com uma câmara de 2.0 megapixel, teclas dedicadas para MP3, Bluetooth, expanção microSD, ecrã de 2,3". Não sabendo ainda se será um terminal 3G.

Portugueses compram mais de 4 milhões de telemóveis em 2006

As vendas de telemóveis em Portugal atingiram quase os 4,5 milhões de unidades no ano passado, sendo o segmento dos smartphones o mais dinâmico.

Segundo os resultados de um estudo promovido pela consultora IDC, o número de dispositivos móveis e portáteis vendidos em Portugal em 2006 ultrapassou as 4,8 milhões de unidades.

O relatório, intitulado "Serviços, Aplicações e Dispositivos Móveis: Análise e Previsões 2005-2010", apresenta os principais dados relativos a este mercado, que deverá crescer em média sete por cento anualmente neste período.

De acordo com o estudo, o segmento dos smartphones é o que apresenta uma dinâmica maior, com uma taxa média de crescimento na ordem dos 50 por cento neste período de tempo. A empresa consultora defende que «se a oferta dos dispositivos convergentes (smartphones) fosse sucessivamente renovada, este segmento cresceria a um ritmo ainda mais acentuado».

Em relação às aplicações, para além da grande utilização de SMS, o estudo prevê um crescimento das taxas de utilização de serviços de TV Móvel, Mobile Instant Messaging e Música Vídeo superior a 70 por cento.
Em comunicado, o Research & Consulting Manager da IDC Portugal, Gabriel Coimbra, afirma que «à medida que os índices de utilização dos serviços e aplicações de dados cresçam e exijam mais do software e da interface de utilização, a IDC espera que a indústria e o mercado se voltem progressivamente para os dispositivos convergentes».

No que diz respeito aos computadores portáteis, a consultora refere que continuam a ser os principais equipamentos utilizados para o acesso a dados em situações de mobilidade. De entre as principais razões para esta conclusão, a IDC destaca a redução do preço médio e o desenvolvimento do mercado de telecomunicações móveis, nomeadamente através da implementação de hotspots comerciais e novas soluções 3G.

Gabriel Coimbra acredita que «a progressiva utilização dos serviços móveis de dados vai depender bastante da mobilização dos subscritores actuais e da conquista de novos utilizadores, e cabe à indústria cativar de forma continuada os vários segmentos».

For a device that some, technically challenged, people think is a toy, the iPhone is still generating a lot of buzz.
There is a lot of interest in the iPhone interface and here is another way that you can make your Pocket PC look like the iPhone.
PCWorld is running a story which shows Pocket PC users how they can get the look and feel of the iPhone before the iPhone even hits the shelves.
Despite efforts by Apple Inc. to block it, a small software program that gives Microsoft Corp. Pocket PCs a user interface that looks much like the iPhone’s is still available online.
A blogger who says he’s a lawyer in Poland has posted the software on his Web site, offering it to anyone who wants to download and use it.
These people should realize that the iPhone is here to stay and before they knock the device they should at least wait until it comes out so they can get the whole story on what it can and cannot do.
It is funny how they knock Apple but they love Microsoft which gave us great products like Bob, Windows ME, and the Zune.

iMate with WM6!

i-Mate announced a dazzling array of new products and services including a category-defining range of mobile devices for business users and consumers. These are the first of a line-up of exciting devices i-mate will introduce through 2007.

For a long time pocket pc users were annoyed when they started loving YouTube but unfortunately those videos weren't played on Pocket PC' because YouTube uses a newer version of Flash which was not yet made for Pocket PC phones. So people used many complicated techniques on first downloading those videos and then converting them to be played on their devices. Now, Werner over the Pocket PC Magazine Blog reports that the brand new, 8.65 version of the great Windows Mobile Web browser Opera Mobile is able to directly play back YouTube videos (if you do install the standard, free (!) Changes at HTC Europe - new appointment for Lars-Christian Weisswange

Europe is still the biggest market for smartphones (in future it will be Asia for sure) and HTC is strongly present in Europe.

HTC Europe is located in a small city "Slough" west of London (located there because it is halfway between Microsoft UK headquarters in Reading and London)... but HTC is active also in other European countries... (on photo above: a building in Slough, where HTC rents one floor for its European division) ... like for example Germany, Austria and Switzerland - German speaking countries (called also "DACH" because D, A and CH are national symbols used on cars) - for which HTC appointed new manager: Lars-Christian Weisswange.

Lars-Christian Weisswange is 32 years old and is working for HTC already since 2006 as Account Director responsible for looking after Telefonica-owned O2 mobile operator in Germany, UK, Ireland and Spain (Telefonica after all is a Spanish company).

Previously Lars-Christian Weisswange was working 9 years for O2 and Samsung. In his new job Lars-Christian Weisswange will be responsible for German speaking countries and for building of a HTC division in city of Frankfurt - to support mobile operators and distributors on location.

Interestingly main boss of HTC Europe - Florian Seiche - is also German.

Portugal vai ter postos públicos para carregar telemóveis

A Fast Charge vai introduzir em Portugal um serviço que permite carregar baterias de telemóveis em postos públicos.
EMCARGA é o nome dos postos públicos que vão nascer um pouco por todo o país pela mão da Fast Charge.A empresa estabeleceu uma parceria com a chinesa Chaliyuan Technology para introduzir postos públicos que permitirão carregar baterias de telemóveis em várias cidades.

Com "algumas semelhanças com as caixas de multibanco móveis", explica a empresa, os espaços EMCARGA estão equipados com ecrãs, onde serão apresentados conteúdos publicitários aos quais o utilizador pode assistir enquanto recupera a bateria do seu telemóvel.

Compatível com 95 por cento das marcas existentes no mercado, o sistema permite o carregamento simultêneo de oito a 18 equipamentos em apenas 15 minutos.

Os utilizadores podem ainda receber e efectuar chamadas e outras operações enquanto carregam a bateria do seu equipamento.

A fiabilidade e segurança do sistema está patente na "utilização de tecnologias circuito de prevenção multiplexing e carregamento por micro-impulsos", possibilitando uma autonomia de até 12 horas após o carregamento sem "viciar" as baterias, assegura a empresa em comunicado.

A Fast Charge acredita que este serviço será importante para a "redução da dependência dos carregadores tradicionais", garantindo ainda que os postos públicos incluirão um sistema de desinfecção e esterilização dos equipamentos.E

stados Unidos, Reino Unido, França, Suécia e Espanha são alguns países onde este sistema já funciona, pela mão da Chaliyuan Technology, que começou a introduzir o método em 2002, na China, e em seguida a exportá-lo para outros países.

Os postos deverão comerçar a surgir em cidades como Lisboa, Porto, Aveiro, Leiria ou Santarém dentro de aproximadamente um mês e meio.

Já o custo do serviço depende do local onde se faz o carregamento, variando entre o gratuito e um euro.

Nokia Siemens Networks starts operations

Nokia announced today that Nokia Siemens Networks started its operations on April 1, assuming a leading position in the communications infrastructure market and ready to help its hundreds of customers across the globe meet the challenges of connecting the five billion people that the company believes will be "always on" by 2015.
The new company, owned by Nokia and Siemens, holds a top three position in the industry (based on 2006 pro-forma revenues of EUR 17.1 billion) and is ideally positioned to tap growth opportunities in both the wireless and fixed communications markets. Nokia Siemens Networks has approximately 600 customers and operates in about 150 countries, combining deep local presence and know-how with the global reach and international support of an industry leader. The company starts with strong momentum. Approximately 140 joint bids have been submitted since anti-trust approvals in November, in addition to the separate Siemens and Nokia activities.

Philips 598 woos the ladies

I suppose virtually every cellphone these days must come with at least MP3 playback, lest your MIDI ringtone be mocked at during a social function amidst a sea of MP3 ringtones. Philips has shown its sensitivity towards such a subject by offering the Philips 598 cellphone that targets females with an array of women-only functions such as a diary and calendar, a shopping list, a discounts manager, body weight index, and basal metabloic rate measurement. What you get with this triband GSM handset consists of a 1.8" 262k color TFT display, a 1.3 megapixel camera, MP3 playback, a microSD slot, 128MB of internal memory, and JAVA support. I must admit - the Philips 598 looks more like a MP3 player than cellphone.

LG intros banana-inspired SV280 slider phone

LG this morning took a fresher approach to cellphone design and launched the SV280. Not unlike the kick slider of Motorola's RIZR Z8, the Korean-made phone takes its cue from a banana's shape to gently curve the handset when it slides open. This puts both the speaker and the microphone closer to your face, LG says. A rounded body with edge grips also makes for a more comfortable fit.Media playback is still a focus in the design with a significant 142MB of built-in flash (plus a microSD slot), a 1.3-megapixel camera, and MP3 playback. The SV280 goes live with SKTelecom in Korea today; the likelihood of a North American version is currently slight. Click through for a larger photo.

The first picture have been leaked of a new BlackBerry phone, the 8830. Presumably a companion or successor to the 8800, the new phone is headed to Verizon Wireless, and while having a very similar button and display layout, is now burnished in metallic grey instead of black. Texas Instruments adds DLP Pico-Projector in a mobile phone

Texas Instruments has brought forth the DLP Pico-Projector. It is a phone with a projector, a good one too. Having a pocket projector may seem to be great option for folks who are on the move to deliver seminars at various venues. A research by Pacific Media Associates (PMA) states that this category of products can scale up to more than 1M units by 2010. Now that’s an impressive figure to by, pretty encouraging. Sharing media with your co-workers, bosses, clients etc on a larger scale is fun now as never before. It’s a great means of combining and integrating technologies.
Texas Instrument’s OMAP processor technology can also be used for processing videos and graphic contents and the projector proves to be a great means of complementing this technology.

Nokia 5070: Fun and function

Nokir E828 or Nokia N73

All right this is no typo but there is actually a Chinese manufacturer by the name Nokir who makes mobile phones. We have seen companies ripping off the iPod but they were still creative with the naming, I guess this brings an end to that also. The Nokir E828 is a rip off the Nokia N73, however it does pack is some decent features. To start with it has a 2.6 inch QVGA touchscreen a feature all Nokia phones lack. The dual band GSM phone sports a 2 Megapixel camera with video recording. The onboard media player can playback popular audio and video formats. The clone does lack connectivity options like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. It connects to the host via USB 2.0 and comes preloaded with Java games.

Microsoft lança browser para telemóveis

Desenvolvido nos laboratórios da divisão Live da Microsoft, o novo browser pretende competir com o Opera e aplicativos de fabricantes de telemóveis.
A empresa de Bill Gates anunciou o lançamento do Deepfish, um novo browser direccionado para smartphones, PDAs e telemóveis, que permite aos utilizadores carregar páginas Web com mais facilidade e rapidez.

Desta forma, a Microsoft dá mais um passo no sentido de dominar a navegação na Internet, mas desta vez no ecrã dos telefones móveis.Desenvolvido nos laboratórios da divisão Live da Microsoft, o Deepfish lê a página Web, formatada para um browser (como o Internet Explorer ou Firefox) num PC, e converte-a numa imagem reduzida, do tamanho do ecrã de um dispositivo.Assim, os utilizadores poderão fazer zoom na parte da página que querem ler.

No entanto, a empresa admitiu que o navegador está ainda nas fases iniciais de desenvolvimento, podendo ainda não estarem disponíveis todas as funcionalidades.

De salientar que este anúncio do Deepfish surge logo a seguir ao lançamento do ZenZui, um browser em tudo similar, desenvolvido por uma empresa que usa tecnologia da Microsoft.

A estratégia é também semelhante, ou seja, exibir sites da Internet no ecrã de telemóveis.
